About Swami Vivekananda Jayanti
“Jayanti” as a term refers to the birthday of any significant personality of the country. Swami Vivekananda was one such eminent personality in India, who throughout his life, devoted himself to spiritual and philosophical teachings and also established the famous Ramkrishna Mission, naming it after his guru (teacher).
His birthday, which according to English calendar, falls on the 12th of January and according to Hindu calendar varies somewhere between January- February every year, is celebrated with great honor and respect for the learned man, who through his knowledge and spiritual beliefs, brought positive changes in the society.
Government, as well as the private sectors, makes contributions to this festival, as many organizations like charities, hospitals, and educational institutes pay their tribute to Swamiji, conduct spiritual programs and also talk about his preaching and lessons.
It is widely celebrated in most parts of the country and 12th January—his English calendar birthday is also celebrated as National Youth Day in India.
