About Kukke Subramanya Temple

Located in a village called Subramanya in the south Indian state of Karnataka, Kukke Subramanya Temple is a popular Hindu holy shrine, where people worship Lord Kartikeya, in his avatar of Subramanya—the lord of all serpents.

According to legend, long back the popular, humble, and divine serpent Vasuki along with a list of other serpents had taken refuge in the village of Subramanya when they were threatened by the giant bird—Garuda.

The Kukke Subramanya Temple is enveloped in scenic beauty as it is situated right on the slope of the Western Ghats of Karnataka state.

It is surrounded by dense forests, and right when one looks from the slope of the mountain, he can see the popular mountain: Kumara Parvatha.

Pilgrims have to cross the Kumaradhara River before they step ahead for darshan of the Kukke Subramanya Temple.

The pilgrims also take a holy dip in the waters of this river. Many rituals take place in the temple on a daily basis, and some of the pujas include the Ashlesha Bali, and the Sarpa Samskara.
