Every year, on the 11th of October, the International Day of the Girl Child is observed. The prime objective of this day is to focus and spread awareness on gender inequality that many young girls in the society even today.

Every year a new unique theme is adopted to mark the observance of the International Day of the Girl Child and this year in 2017, the theme is ‘’The Power of the Adolescent Girl: 2030.’’

Investing in the betterment of the present and future of adolescent girls can prove to be a very progressive step to have a better world by the year 2030.

As of today, there are approximately 600 million girls in the age group of 10 to 19 all over the world, who have their own individual potential and capability to make a difference in this world, however, due to gender inequality issues, not just in terms of secondary education about also protection, their potential, their talent, get overshadowed.

Hence, this year the theme is to target adolescent girls who can benefit from various programmes and target investments set up for this day.

Adolescent girls who live in conflict zones are 90% more likely than those girls living in the conflict-free zone, to drop out of school, which jeopardizes not just their present but also future prospects of living independently and having a proper life.

Thus, the International Day of the Girl Child this year plans to empower such girls through their various programmes so that they can make the most of the resources available to them to secure their present and future and also reach their full development potential as they get the opportunity to exercise their talent and thus, transition into a responsible, able, and worthwhile adult.
