Coming to his date of birth, as per the Julian Calendar that was followed in the ancient era, Maharana Pratap was born on the 9th of May in the year 1540.

However, after the Julian Calendar was deemed to be obsolete, it was observed that as per the Proleptic Gregorian Calendar, Maharana Pratap’s birth anniversary falls on the 19th of May, 1540.

But since in India, the day is observed as per the traditional Hindu calendar, and hence, it changes every year, and this year in 2017, it happens to be on the 28th of May.

The day is celebrated in India to remember the courageous and incessant contributions to India made by Maharana Pratap, especially in the north-Indian state of Rajasthan, from where Pratap hailed, and the people there pay tributes to the late king for his profound bravery and never-ending love for his motherland.

In history, Maharana Pratap has a list of achievements and victories to his credit, but the main even for which he is remembered till date and people salute his bravery is the Battle of Haldighati, which he had fought against the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who was one of the most celebrated and popular kings from the entire Mughal dynasty and went on to rule India for a very long period.

Maharana Pratap in that battle was outnumbered, but despite that, he fought to the best of his ability and also managed to kill Maan Singh, a key individual in Akbar’s army, before making a narrow escape. He is always remembered as the first warrior he initiated the first war for India’s independence with unmatched bravery.
