About Araku Valley

Located in the Visakhapatnam district in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Araku Valley is one of the most beautiful and popular hill stations in the country.

Geographically, the valley is situated on the Eastern Ghats, and there are multiple tribes that inhabit the place. The official language spoke in the Araku Valley is the same as the official language of the state of Andhra Pradesh: Telugu.

The height of the valley is an approximate elevation of 911 meters. From the city of Visakhapatnam, the Araku Valley stands at a distance of 114 KM, very near to the border of the neighboring state of Odisha. Coming to the other popular elements of the Araku Valley, it has the Anantagiri and Sunkarimetta reserved forest, which are highly rich in biodiversity.

Magnificent mountains such as Chitamogondi, Galikonda, Raktakonda, and Sunkarimetta envelop the valley from all directions. All of these hills are blesses owners of Bauxite ore, as the area is naturally decked with it.

In fact, out of all these mountains, the Galikonda Hill is the one that stands at a magnanimous height of 5000 meters, which makes it one of the highest peaks in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Other than that, Araku Valley is one of the most famous coffee plantations in the country, wherein the majority of the tribes here participate in coffee cultivation and also work as small farmers.

The first organic coffee brand of India was introduced in Araku Valley in the year 2007, and the place’s renowned premier organic coffee brand called the Araku Emerald is a globally popular coffee brand that is sold in the country as well as overseas.

The average rainfall in this place is around 1700 mm, and the period between which the valley witnesses such rainfall lies between June and October. Many popular Tollywood films such as Katha, Darling, Happy Days, and Life is Beautiful, were shot in the valley due to its unbeatable scenic beauty. Coming to tourism purposes, the best time to visit Araku Valley to enjoy the place in the best way possible is from September to October, as well as March to May.
