Set up in the year 1996, the Indian Institute of Management in Indore, also known as IIM-I was the sixth institute in the chain of IIMs that were built in the country since 1961, after the Planning Commission saw the need for elite management institutes to cater to the growing needs of management expertise and research.
Located in Indore, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh in central India, the IIM-I began offering its flagship in two years full time postgraduate program in management in the UAE, thus, making a record for itself by being the first IIM ever to be functional and operate abroad. It kind of was the first step the country took in actually representing its institutes as a global business school.
Later, it withdrew its operations from Dubai (UAE) and started offering management programs in the popular city of Mumbai, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Till date, the IIM-I remains the only IIM to have its essence in Mumbai.
With its motto as “Achievement is Rooted in Management,” the IIM-I provides an array of courses which include integrated programs for five years, postgraduate programs for two years, fellowship programs in management, as well as executive programs.
