Also known as Asfi Imambara, Bada Imambara was constructed in the year 1784 by Awadh’s fourth Nawab: Asaf ud Daula. Situated in Lucknow, the basic perspective of its construction was to provide relief to the victims and the ones affected in the major famine that took place in that year.
The place has been significant in history ever since its construction, and even today, many Muslims gather in this place every year during the religious festival of Muharram.
The architecture has minuet detailing, and the central arched hall in the structure is said to be the largest in the world in its kind. The unique aspect when it comes to the construction of this monument is the fact that there has been no usage of beams and girders in the establishment of this place.
The structure also has another fascinating element, called the Bhulbhulaiya—a maze, which is located on the top floor of the place, giving a full aerial view of the entire creation. The Bhulbailaiya can be accessed only once you pass through a long array of staircase, and the challenge is to reach this point without getting lost! It can be achieved by taking the help of a tour guide.
