About Akbar’s Mausoleum

One of the many splendid creations by the Mughal dynasty, Akbar’s Mausoleaum, named after the great Mughal emperor Akbar, constructed by his son Emperor Jahangir, is a magnificent marbled tomb that basically stands as a tribute that commemorates the ventures of each and every Mughal ruler in the history of India. It was built 8 years after Akbar’s demise in the year 1613.

A beautiful grandeur, the structure has a gigantic gateway in the courtyard and has monuments and minarets built of red sandstone structured at each corners. Right in the center of all the enclosures of the structure, are three false doorways.

The outline of the structure comes across like the shape of a pyramid, and is decked with a variety of other ancient Mughal creations, like gardens and towers and also a conjectural dome. The terrace at the top is another manifestation of grand scale architecture.

The craftsmanship was mainly focused on achieving original art and mapping of the structure. However, due to a lot of deficit, both in terms of vision of expansion, understanding, guidance and direction, the end result in terms of the structure’s definition and symbolism turned out to be a little incoherent.
